Moving Forward: Contract Agreements: Troubles With the US and French Governments
In 1907, many were convinced the Wrights were just a hoax. However, the US and French Governments thought differently. They wanted the Flyer for their military. Both countries contacted the brothers asking for a formal demonstration of their Flyer's capabilities. They responded with a request for a contract.
After years of negotiations, contracts with both governments came through. Upon demonstrating specific requirements and specifications, the contract would be signed. Wilbur went to Le Mans, France and Orville went to Fort Myer in Arlington, Virginia.
